School Description and Mission Statement

This section provides information about the school’s goals and programs.

This is the nineteenth year of the School Accountability Report Card that was established by Proposition 98, an initiative passed by California voters.  As you read this Report Card, you will gain a better understanding of Chipman as a school with a record for improvement, a faculty that is professionally skilled and personally committed to meeting the learning needs of students and a student body which is enthusiastic and motivated to perform well.

It is the mission of Chipman Junior High School to provide an academic program that will enable all students to be productive citizens in the twenty-first century.

Opportunities for Parental Involvement

This section provides information about opportunities for parents to become involved with school activities.

The school community is actively involved with school activities through the Booster Club, School Site Council, School Advisory Committee, English Learner Advisory Committee and Student Body fund-raisers as well.  Parent volunteers assist the music program and the school site library program.  Parents are kept informed of coming events through our web page, monthly newsletters, bulletins sent home with the students and via our digital marquee.  Paperback book sales at school further involve parents and proceeds are used to purchase additional library books.  An informational Open House takes place at the beginning of each school year in September.  Parent/teacher conferences are also held yearly during the month of November.  Individual conferences may be scheduled at any time during a teacher’s preparatory period.  A parent serves as the Superintendent’s liaison and the District English Learner Advisory Committee is involved in school-site visits.

School Safety Plan

This section provides information about the school's comprehensive safety plan.

Chipman established its Comprehensive School Safety Plan in 1998.  A law enforcement officer specializing in safety provided direction in the establishment of the School Safety Plan.  Chipman’s School Safety Plan is current and is updated annually.  Key elements of Chipman’s School Safety Plan include the following: (a) routine and emergency disaster procedures; (b) suspension, and expulsion procedures; (c) teacher notification of pupils with a specific discipline history; (d) child abuse reporting procedures, (e) the district’s sexual harassment policy; (f) school crime data; (g) the student dress code; (h) safe entrance and exit procedures; (i) the civil defense and disaster plan; and (j) discipline rules and procedures.  Our overall goal is to maintain a safe and orderly school environment conducive to learning.
