School Description and Mission Statement

This section provides information about the school’s goals and programs.

This is the nineteenth year of the School Accountability Report Card that was established by Proposition 98, an initiative passed by California voters.  As you read the Report Card, you will gain a better understanding of McKinley as a school with a record for improvement, a faculty that is professionally skilled and personally committed to meeting the learning needs of students and a student body which is enthusiastic and motivated to perform well.

McKinley School believes:

§ Students’ learning is the primary focus of all decisions.

§ Each Student is a valued individual and will be provided with a variety of instructional approaches to support their learning.

§ All students can learn when they are actively engaged in the learning process.

§ A safe and physically comfortable environment promotes student learning.

McKinley School Mission is to educate and inspire all students to reach their maximum potential.

Opportunities for Parental Involvement

This section provides information about opportunities for parents to become involved with school activities.

Parents were kept informed about school activities, programs and student’s progress through parent meetings, and letters to the parents from the principal, progress reports and teacher contacts.  Parents participated in decision-making regarding special funds through the School Site Council.  Alma Paniagua was selected as our parent volunteer of the year.

Parents are encouraged to participate in parent education training.  Classes are offered in English and Spanish. ( Childcare is also proided.)  Parents also participated in make and take workshops and meetings to learn how to help their children to be successful. This year we also had two STAR celebrations with parents to celebrate academic achievement. We also had our annual Mother/Daughter Dinner and Father /Son Dinner.

Parents and community members helped to build a playground through a KABOOM Grant sponsored by Home Depot. This year the Harry and Ethel Foundation donated money to help provide uniforms for our uniform closet.

We continue to enjoy community support through partnerships with Home Depot, LizDe Beauty Salon, Albertson's Food Store, Food Maxx, Target Department Store, Home Town Buffet, Chevron, Pepsi, Sargents, Floyds, Food Bank, Kern Schools Federal Credit Unit.  Mimi Cafe, American Legion Auxillary.
