School Description and Mission Statement 

This section provides information about the school’s goals and programs. 

This is the nineteenth year of the School Accountability Report Card that was established by Proposition 98; an initiative passed by California voters. As you read this Report Card, you will gain a better understanding of Williams as a school with a record for improvement, a faculty that is professionally skilled and personally committed to meeting the learning needs of students, and a student body which is enthusiastic and motivated to perform well.

 

Williams Elementary School is a neighborhood school, located at 1201 Williams Street in East Bakersfield.  Williams has a culturally diverse student population of students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.

 

Williams Elementary School’s mission is to provide a safe, supportive, challenging, environment wherein students can become confident lifelong learners through instructional approaches, which actively engage students in the learning process.

 

Opportunities for Parental Involvement 

This section provides information about opportunities for parents to become involved with school activities.  

Opportunities for parental involvement include Quarterly Grade-Level Orientations, Community Based English Tutoring (CBET), Parent University, Classroom Volunteers, Math Make & Take, Language Arts Make & Take, and Parent activities and fundraisers.  The monthly newsletter, notes to parents, Back to School Night, School Site Council, School Site Council, School Advisory Committee, English Learner Advisory Committee, and Parent/Principal meetings are used to keep parents informed and encourage parent involvement.

II. School Climate 

 

School Safety Plan 

 

This section provides information about the school's comprehensive safety plan. 

 

Williams established its Comprehensive School Safety Plan in 1998.  A law enforcement officer specializing in safety provided direction in the establishment of the School Safety Plan.  Williams’ School Safety Plan is current and is updated annually.  Key elements of Williams’ School Safety Plan include the following: (a) routine and emergency disaster procedures; (b) suspension, and expulsion procedures; (c) teacher notification of pupils with a specific discipline history; (d) child abuse reporting procedures, (e) the district’s sexual harassment policy; (f) school crime data; (g) the student dress code; (h) safe entrance and exit procedures; (i) the civil defense and disaster plan; and (j) discipline rules and procedures.  Our overall goal is to maintain a safe and orderly school environment conducive to learning.
